This project is a collaboration with oral historian Fernanda Espinosa. the Whose Street? Community Mural Project was commissioned by the Laundromat Project in the fall of 2015. We installed the art at the Know Waste Lands garden (1278 Myrtle Ave). These pieces were inspired by short interviews and oral histories from folks in Bushwick. We also celebrated with the garden’s community and presented this short video created by The Laundromat Project (thanks Line Break Media!). There are many people to thank and we feel very honored to have had this wonderful opportunity to talk to our neighbors and address multiple layers of issues happening in our community. Thank you to all the people at The Laundromat Project who commissioned* and supported this project at all levels, to all those who contributed their voices and time, including Sandy Nurse, Rosario Saladin and Bianca, and many others Bushwick residents who shared their thoughts through shorter interviews. Thanks to Know Waste Lands garden and members, to our Resident Ropavejeros: Immigrant Worker Art Collective artists: Sebas and Jesus, our many volunteers, including Jason Maas and the amazing artist Hilary Allison, and to the wonderful youth at BK ROT . Also, looking forward to extending the project to be part of Cynthia Tobar's "Cities for People, Not for Profit." Finally, thanks to People's Climate Arts@ the Mayday Space for providing space for us to work and celebrate and to Amy at the Columbia University Oral History Masters Program for your guidance. Forgive us if we are missing a name, you know we love you and we are grateful for you participation and love! This is only the beginning of a conversation..
